It’s been a busy start to 2025 for your local officers in Sawbridgeworth. Here are some of the things they’ve been up to: Following reports of anti-social motor bike riding in the area, patrols have continued around the grassland behind The Crest. Four individuals have been stopped and spoken to in relation to this with further prevention, enforcement and educational work continuing. We held our first Coffee with a Cop event at The Coffee Lounge in High Wych to allow members of the public to discuss any issues or concerns with the local policing team. Officers from our Criminal Exploitation Prevention team also attended to give a presentation around knife crime. Regular anti-social behaviour patrols have been conducted across the area, this includes the park on West Road where five teenagers have been stopped and spoken to and letters have been sent home to parents. A big part of the Neighbourhood Policing Team’s work is collaboration with partner agencies. Multi-agency meetings between housing, East Herts District Council and other agencies continue to take place to problem solve, safeguard vulnerable residents and to improve many housing-related issues including, quality of life issues, neighbour disputes and anti-social behaviour. In response to concerns from residents, officers have been out conducting speed enforcement in various locations across Sawbridgeworth and High Wych. Proactive patrols and prevention work has been conducted across retail premises with the aim to reduce retail crime and deter any would be offenders, while also providing support and reassurance to stores. Four people have been charged with theft from shop, leading to a reduction in retail crime since December. We have successfully applied for a grant of £500 from the Sawbridgeworth Town Council to help us fund exciting, interactive equipment and supplies for our next round of Mini Police sessions at primary schools in both Sawbridgeworth and High Wych. Following a police investigation, a man has been pleaded guilty at court to three offences committed in the area. This includes damage that was caused to the Sawbo Bus and another vehicle, as well as an attempted burglary at The Tuck shop. He has been remanded in prison and is due for sentencing in May. Officers have taken part in specialist operations to tackle vehicle crime, leading to multiple arrests.
